The International Pulsar Timing Array (IPTA) would like to congratulate
our LIGO and Virgo colleagues on a momentous achievement. The scientific and technological feat of making the first direct detection of gravitational waves is truly monumental, and deserving of widespread
recognition. The inauguration of the field of gravitational-wave
astronomy will lead to untold advances in our understanding of the Universe.
With the audio-band gravitational-wave window now open, we hope to
extend the observed gravitational-wave landscape to lower frequencies
soon. The IPTA is constantly improving its capabilities towards the
detection of nanohertz gravitational waves, primarily from the inspiral
of supermassive black hole binaries. We look forward to the day when we
too have the privilege to claim a gravitational-wave detection, but
today we simply raise a glass and toast the incredible success of LIGO!
